Audio Paired With Video
Teenage Engineering designed a premium mic and compact audio recorder. They both capture a musician's unique sound, but not the whole experience of making music or podcasts. What would it look like if Teenage Engineering created a field recorder with video capabilities?

Brand Inspiration
Looking at brand elements to understand what can be limits to styling the camera recorder design. Adding an elegant touch, while also maintaining cleverness and a primary function element to the form factor will help make the design feel as though it's part of the Field recorder family.
Starting With Proportions
Jumping into hundreds of small thumbnails and sketching out the TP-7 to scale created a huge generation of thought to get kick started. Focusing on horizontal orientations as well as the standard vertical look too. Also, focusing on establishing a grid layout in the early stages.
Trying New Things
Each of the recorders have a unique primary function element. The TP-7 has a playback toggle on the side, which draws attention. The camera recorder needs it's own unique callout. So, ideating around the gridded layout accompanied by a primary element was crucial to maintaining the family of form.
Refined Sketching
Taking the sketch process into Illustrator helped the visualization of the camera recorder progress. Seeing proportions of the camera lens, buttons, and side design elements made it more clear as to the direction of the camera. Using the front and back of the recorder, like the CM-15, made sense for adding a screen on the back.
Hierarchy
After trying different face and back designs earlier in the ideation phase, the models accelerated the design process to a well thought out solution. Having a physical model to reference when going deeper into cad also helped the camera recorder stay grounded to the Teenage Engineering field recorder style.
Detailing
While keeping in mind Teenage Engineering's Field recorder line, there needs to be slight variation in how the camera recorder looks. The detail hierarchy and cmf adds to the TE style.
Identity
The camera recorder aims to fit in nicely with the other field products, especially the TP-7. The TP-7 is the most "on-the-go" field recorder of the existing trio, and the super mobile camera recorder should look just as dynamic and sophisticated.
